Students in France from a non-EU country

As a student from a non-EU country, you need to insure yourself on site. If you are younger than 28 years and matriculated/enrolled at a French university, you will be able to take out the French student health insurance.

Students who do not have any claim to statutory student insurance will be able to take out basic insurance through the CMU. This is free of charge for persons with an annual income of less than 7083.00 €.

Students in France from an EU country

As a Student from the EU in France, you remain insured through your statutory health insurance in your home country. This way, you will be insured in France for emergency treatment. Please not that return transport to your home country is not included in this insurance. Health insurances typically only assume the costs that the insurances in the respective country reimburse as well. Those with statutory health insurance therefore must pay deductibles and copayments that are common abroad from their own funds. If you are younger than 28 years and matriculated at a French university, you will be also able to take out the French student health insurance.
