If you come for an internship in France from a country outside the EU, you are not insured through the statutory health insurance in your home country.

Interns in France from an EU country

With your European insurance card, you are insured for emergency treatment in France. You usually have to settle the invoice for treatment and medicines on site yourself at first. To have the share of your treatment reimbursed, submit detailed and signed invoices to your health insurance.

If you come from a country with which France has no social insurance treaty, we highly recommend taking out a travel health insurance, since your home country's health insurance will not pay in France. Interns in France from an EU country

If you come from the European area, the European health insurance card (EHIC) only offers basic care in France. Not all services are covered –return transport to your home country for health reasons, for example, is not. Please note, your home country's health insurance will cover the costs for medical treatments and medication only at the level of the French health insurance. In the Frensh health care system only 70% of the out-patient and 80% of the in-patient costs are covered. Therefore, taking put a private travel health insurance as additional insurance is sensible.
